APPLYING THE AC TO PERSONAL SUCCESS
APPLYING THE AUTHENTICITY COMPASS TO PERSONAL SUCCESS
Authenticity means being true to your self and others. It means being fully trustworthy and genuine. Given life is a journey, your authenticity requires you to:
- Identify and acknowledge your beliefs, thoughts and feelings.
- Understand your innate skills and preferences.
- Develop the skills you need to make the best choices in life. Your best choices result in your alignment with your circumstances and being in a state of personal balance.
The book, The Authenticity Compass, has many exercises to support your personal authenticity journey. For example:
- The PLEP Profile (pages 35 -39) assists you in pinpointing the areas of your life that have opportunities for improvement.
- The Backward-4 Method for Decision Making (pages 139-143) provides a proven roadmap for effective decision-making and group consensus.
- The ICE-ing (Identify/Cope/Exit-ing) Application. (pages 144-147) guides your evaluation of any problematic relationship or situation you may be facing in order to determine whether you need to strengthen your coping skills or EXIT the relationship / situation.
The book presents a practice that is absolutely essential to the use of your Authenticity Compass. It is called the SElf Examination (SEE) Method. The SEE Method (pages 89-98) instills discipline regarding the development of your self awareness so that, no matter the circumstances you find yourself in, you learn to make choices that honor your true self. The SEE Method encourages you to regularly examine your experiences by teaching you to answer the following three questions:
- What is happening?
- How am I reacting?
- Why?
The Authenticity Compass supports positive relationship development by making you aware of the fundamental dynamics influencing your interactions. By understanding your preferences for perceiving and judging you are made aware of your potential blindspots and other likely interaction challenges. By maintaining a PDCA focus you learn how to successfully manage each domain of your life. You also learn to recognize and respect the interdependent PDCA dynamics of successful group activities and realize how you can best contribute to them.
